5th Grade party and Last day of school!

On the last day of school, the 5th graders got to have a party in the gym with pizza, cake, games, a photo booth, and silly string wars.  Then the whole school and parents lined the hallways to clap the 5th graders out as they left Granger for the final time.  It was a fun day and a little bit emotional for many of the parents and kids.

Avery's 5th grade Graduation

Granger celebrated the 5th grade class with a special graduation ceremony and reception at Byron Nelson HS. Avery received numerous awards and had fun performing a cute dance with all the other 5th graders.  The highlight of the evening, however, was that Avery won 1st place in an essay contest among all the 5th graders at Granger in which they wrote on the topic of "What's Right About America."  Congresswoman Kay Granger, whom our school is named after, judged the essays.  Avery received a signed copy of the Congresswoman's book and she will receive a flag that was flown today over the US Capitol in Washington, DC.  What an incredible honor!  We are so proud of you Avery and so thankful for the teachers at Granger who have supported her and helped shape her into the great writer and young lady that she is becoming.

Kindergarten Graduation

For Judson's Kindergarten graduation he got to dress up as what he wants to be when he grows up- a veterinarian. He was so happy and proud to walk across the stage and receive his packet of awards from his teacher.  They also sang an adorable song about leaving kindergarten to the tune of "Ain't No Mountain High Enough," and performed motions to an instrumental song.  I was caught off guard a little by how well Judson performed the motions and how sweet it was, and it actually made me tear up a little! He did so great in his first year of school and we can't wait to watch him continue learning and growing!

Since the kids only had a half day of school Mimi, Poppi and I took them to lunch and for a special treat at Sweet Frog.

Kendall's end of year awards

Today was Kendall's end-of-year awards ceremony.  She received the Golden Lasso award for all A Honor Roll, Boots Walk the Line for good citizenship, Lucky Horseshoe for spirit of a Wrangler, and special recognition for winning 1st place in district UIL Ready-Writing.  After her awards, I took her to Chick-Fil-A for a special mother-daughter lunch and then she helped me pass out cookie cake to Judson's class for his birthday celebration.

Field Day!

This year all 3 kids got to participate in Field Day at Granger, and they all had a blast!  It was a busy 2 days as Judson had his Field Day first, and then the next day the girls had theirs.  At the end of the second day, the 5th graders got to line up in the back parking lot and each set off what they call "fireworks" using a 2 liter of diet soda and a package of mentos.  The kids had so much fun with it and it was a great way to cap off their year of science experiments and projects with Mrs. Slye and Mrs. Jacobs.
