Lake Buchanan

The week after school got out we took a long weekend trip with my parents to Lake Buchanan near Austin.  The kids and I rode down with them while Scott stayed and finished up his work week and then he joined us Friday night.  On our way down, we stopped at McAlisters in Waco for lunch, which happened to be down the street from the Magnolia Silos.  So after lunch we made a little stop there to check it out.

We arrived at our little cabin by the lake around mid-afternoon.  While unloading the food and luggage, my Dad hit his head on the Suburban tailgate and cut it pretty badly.  We decided that I should drive him to a nearby ER to have it stitched up while my Mom and the kids stayed back at the cabin.  It was not the best start to our trip, but we were thankful it wasn't any worse and that there was a hospital fairly close to get it taken care of quickly.  The following day we went into Austin to tour the State Capitol building.  It was the kids first time to visit there.  They enjoyed seeing the cannons and statues outside, as well as the pretty capitol building itself.  After lunch at Chilis, we headed back to the cabin to enjoy swimming and playing tetherball, ping pong, and other games they had in the rec center.  Scott drove in that evening so he could join us for the weekend.

On Saturday we rented a boat and enjoyed a day out at the lake.  We tubed and swam and had a picnic lunch.  We also toured Longhorn Caverns, which was really cool, both figuratively and literally, and had a yummy BBQ dinner.  Before driving home on Sunday we had a peaceful family worship time in Inks Lake State Park and then made a stop at Pedernales Falls for some hiking and exploring.  It was a fun trip and we really enjoyed spending some time in nature with family!

Kendall's gymnastics showcase

The new gym Kendall has been going to this year, US Gold,  has a showcase every year at the end of school.  It is organized similarly to a meet, but is judged by the older team gymnasts and there aren't any places given.  Since she isn't on the competition team, Kendall was very excited to have a chance to show off her skills that she has learned this year to all her family members.  She performed routines on all four events (although I only have pictures of 2 really) and did a great job.  She received high scores from her judges, and a medal at the end for her participation and hard work.  Way to go Kendall!

End of year pool party

On the last day of school we were invited to a pool party at the neighborhood pool with Avery's friends from school.  It was a fun afternoon of swimming, snacking, and hanging out with friends.  A perfect way to end the school year and kick off the summer!

End of school awards

Both Avery and Kendall received several awards at their end-of-year awards assemblies celebrating and honoring their hard work and good citizenship this school year.  They both received the golden lasso award for All A Honor Roll and the Boots Walk the Line Award for good citizenship.  They also  both received the Hats off Hard Worker Award and Avery received the Lucky Horseshoe Spirit of a Wrangler Award.  Avery was recognized for placing in the district UIL Oral Reading competition and for scoring 100 on the Math STAAR test. I am so proud of them both for working hard at all they do and striving to be good examples at their school!

Judson turns 5!

Judson and I celebrated his special day by having lunch at Chick Fil A and going to see the Angry Birds Movie.  It was a fun little celebration!

For his party this year he decided to have it at the big playscape at the NRH campus of The Hills Church.  Last year we did the smaller playscape at the West Campus, which was just perfect for his age then, but he was ready to step it up a notch for the big 5! He chose the Avengers for his theme and had a mixture of school friends and church friends to help him celebrate.  The kids, and especially Judson, ran and played non-stop the entire time, only stopping long enough for cake and presents.  He had an awesome time playing with his friends and receiving some special attention.
