Thanksgiving

We celebrated Thanksgiving with Scott's family at Doug and Sheila's house.  It was a little different this year because Memaw and Dedaw were still in California helping the Cabreros out since little Garrett had just been born.  The girls helped me a lot this year with my portion of the cooking, which was really helpful and fun.  Kendall also filled in for Memaw by making her famous chocolate cake.  The kids found plenty to do, including playing some of their piano pieces, jumping on the trampoline, playing Just Dance, playing cards, and messing around with Snapchat.  The adults had a fun time visiting, watching football, and relaxing.  It was a nice day enjoying good food and family.

MAGI packing party

This past summer we went once a week to Healing Hands International to volunteer and help with their MAGI boxes that they fill and give out to poor children in various countries.  The kids really enjoyed it, so when an opportunity arose to volunteer over Thanksgiving break for a MAGI packing party, we jumped on it.  The kids helped with several steps in the process, from filling bags of candy to go in the boxes, to filling and decorating the boxes, to puting their handprints on the big shipping containers.  It was a fun way to spend part of our break and a great way to help others during the holiday season.

Turkey Trot

Every year before Thanksgiving break, Granger has their annual Turkey Trot.  For K-2 it's a 1/2 mile race, and for 3-5 it's a full mile.  The kids always get so excited to run the race and try so hard to come in at the top of their grade level.  Avery and Kendall both ran hard and placed really high in their grade levels, but poor Judson tripped and fell, so he came in a little further back than he wanted and was really disappointed.  I felt so badly for him that after watching his sisters run in this event for several years that his first turkey trot was not as good as he hoped.

Judson- Kid with Character and Avery- Living Museum

Judson was super excited to receive the Kid with Character Award for the second six weeks for the trait of Trustworthiness.  He was all smiles as Mrs. McAdams read what Mrs. Sauce wrote about him:

"Judson is constantly showing the Wrangler Way.  I can always trust him to be honest, reliable, and to do the right thing.  I am so proud of the great choices that you always make, keep it up!"

He was super proud of his certificate and to have earned his very own yard sign just like the ones his big sisters had received in years past.

The 5th graders at Granger always participate in a special project for social studies called Living Museum.  Avery's assigned character was Susan B. Anthony.  We ordered a costume off Amazon, put her hair in a bun, and she looked perfect for the part!  It was fun to go up to the school to see all of the kids in costumes and to see the poster Avery created and hear her presentation. Great Job Avery!

The kids were all supposed to be like statues, so they drew buttons on their hands and would come to life and tell people about themselves when you pushed their button

November Events

This month Avery go to attend her first lock-in.  It was a 5th grade lock-in at the Southlake campus of The Hills Church.  She had an absolute blast, but didn't sleep a wink, so when she woke up too soon the next day, she was pretty crazy and we had to send her back to bed!
Around the middle of November, our newest nephew Garrett Cabrero entered the world.  He was premature, but wasn't too small and proved to be a fighter.  He was able to go home soon and didn't have any lasting complications.  We can't wait to meet him!

The fence between our house and our neighbor Jason's house had to be replaced, so we decided to put in a gate between our backyards since our kids and his son Seth play together so often.  One night they invited us over to their yard to hang and enjoy a fire in the fit pit, complete with s'mores.
Jud wrapped up his soccer season in November and proudly showed off his trophy.

Another big thing this month was that Kendall got her braces off!  She was super excited and her teeth looked so big and pretty!
