Ice Storm 2012

Around the beginning of December, we had a really bad ice storm.  It started sleeting late in the afternoon on a Thursday and kept going on and off through the night.  School was cancelled on Friday and we ended up basically stuck in the house until Monday.  School was cancelled on Monday and Tuesday as well because even though the ice had begun to melt some on Sunday, what was left kept re-freezing overnight.  Bridges and parking lots were especially treacherous.  Luckily the main roads were ok by Monday/Tuesday, so we were able to get out of the house for awhile and go to the grocery store, out to eat, etc.  For the most part, we really enjoyed our time at home relaxing and being together as a family.  Some of the especially fun and/or memorable parts were sledding in the driveway and at the school, watching a Live TV production of The Sound of Music with Carrie Underwood, having the neighbor kids over for Children's Worship on Sunday morning, and all our neighbors helping each other shovel our driveways on Sunday afternoon while the kids helped, played, and made ice-men.  It made us so thankful that we live in this neighborhood and have such great neighbors!

Avery loved playing out in the snow and even went out by herself a few times when no one else wanted to go.

Scott got on his knees at the top of the driveway and would push the kids down on their sleds.  What a fun, sweet Daddy!

The only boots we could find for Judson were these purple ones that Kendall used to wear.

Scott climbed out through Avery's window and used an axe to chop down this giant icicle.  Think he was a little bored not being at work?

Sunday morning we invited some neighbor kids over for Children's Worship.  We had a Bible story on DVD since Scott and I taught Children's Worship at church in the month of December.

On Sunday afternoon all our neighbors got out and helped each other shovel the driveways since it warmed up some and the ice was melting.  Avery and Kendall helped for awhile and then went and played with the other kids that were out.

The kids made this little ice-man in one of the yards.  We later made one in our yard, but I didn't take a picture:(
