Miscellaneous in May

Having lunch with Judson one last time before school ends

Enjoying Sunday lunch on the patio at Mi Cocina

We discovered that a Mother bird had made a nest and laid eggs at the top of our outdoor speaker on the back porch. The kids loved seeing and hearing the babies once they hatched.

Enjoying frozen yogurt with Lexi and Grayson to celebrate STAAR testing being over!

This year we did several service projects with our small group, including putting together backpacks for foster kids, providing meals, babysitting, and cleaning services for the Morgans when they had a foster child placed in their home, and attempting to put on a Parents' Night Out for the community.  We only had one family bring their kids, but it was still a fun night of fellowship for our group.  We had fun playing video games on a big screen, doing art projects, playing four square and dodgeball, and making volcanos.

Avery's 5th grade field trip

The fifth graders got to take a special field trip to see Disney's animal documentary, "Born in China," and to Bear Creek Park for a picnic lunch and play time.  The kids each got a kids' movie combo to enjoy during the movie, and then had a fun time eating lunch, hanging out and playing at the park.  Avery spent most of her time at the park playing sand volleyball since she has played on a rec team a few times.  It was a fun and memorable final elementary field trip for her!

Kendall's Board of Trustees' Medal

As the district first place winner of the UIL Ready-Writing competition, Kendall was invited to a special awards ceremony to receive the NISD Board of Trustees' Medal.  She was super excited to receive such special recognition for her achievement and we were very proud parents!

Mother's Day

To celebrate Mother's Day we met my parents at Olive Garden after church.  We enjoyed a delicious lunch and they surprised me with a very special gift.  They took a ring that my aunt had given to my Nana years ago and had the stones replaced with my kids' birthstones.  I've always wanted some type of ring with my kids' names or birthstones, so I was really excited and very touched by such a special gift.  I know it will always hold sentimental value for me and I will treasure it for years to come.  Later that afternoon Scott and the kids showered me with sweet cards and gifts that made me feel so loved and appreciated.  I'm so thankful for having a partner in parenting like Scott and for the 3 sweet kids that call me Mom.

Avery's music performances

Avery participated in two music performances this month- Kuyanjana at school and her voice recital with Epicenter of the Arts.  She had the opportunity to try out this year for the Granger percussion group called Kuyanjana and she made it into the group.  She enjoyed learning how to play several percussion instruments including xylophone and drums.  One morning before school they set up out front and played music for the students as they entered and then gave a little concert for the parents.  It was such fun, pretty music and was a nice way to start the day.  This month she also had her voice recital with Epicenter for the Arts, where she has been taking lessons this spring.  She sang "When the Lost Get Found" by Britt Nicole. She did an excellent job with both the vocals and her performance, and it was fun to see her growth.

Noah is 6 months!

Our puppy Noah is now 6 months old and has been busy growing.  Like most labs, he is a happy boy and loves life in general. He greets us every morning and every time we come home with full-body wiggles and shin-bruising tail wags.  Some of his favorites are walks, his people, stealing socks, licking water from the shower, playing fetch, chest and belly rubs, the neighbor dog Maxine, and going upstairs to visit Avery's guinea pig Coco. He is house trained and has even been sleeping outside his crate next to our bed for the past week or two. although he gets WAY too excited when new people come over or walk by, his is pretty obedient and is a mostly well-behaved boy. We love our Noah!

End of Jud's Football Season

Judson had a great game to wrap up his football season.  He scored two touchdowns and completed two little passes.  He was so pumped about his trophy and getting to keep his flags to play with at home.  It was a great season and so much fun to watch him and cheer him on!

Easter 2017

We were lucky enough this year to have both of our parents join us for Easter services at Southside.  It was a wonderful morning of worship, and we followed it up with a delicious lunch at Gloria's.  Later that afternoon we gathered with neighbors to have an Easter egg hunt for the kids on the street.  They had a lot of fun finding (and eating!) candy, and the adults had a good time visiting and enjoying the nice spring weather.
